Innovative approach to teaching in the field of fashion and light industry

To improve the quality of training of future industry specialists in the following educational programmes: “Light Industry Technologies” and “Fashion Industry” at the first bachelor’s level of higher education, as well as “Technologies and Design in the Fashion Industry” at the second master’s level of higher education, the Department of Light Industry Technologies of Lutsk National Technical University systematically discusses the content, focus, goals of educational programmes, as well as educational components and their content with representatives of light industry, academic community and students during working meetings.
On 19.11.2024, at the premises of Pelta LLC (Lutsk), a production workshop was held by Deputy Director Olha Namoniuk for students of the study programmes “Light Industry Technologies” and “Fashion Industry” within the discipline “Product Qualification”. During this meeting, the educational programmes of the Department of Light Industry Technologies were discussed in symbiosis with Olha Namoniuk, students and teachers of the department. Anna Zaitseva, a student of the FI-21 group, suggested that Tetiana Holovenko, a teacher of the discipline “Product Qualification”, should highlight practical tasks with these materials, which encourages the acquisition of deeper knowledge of production quality control of special-purpose products.

Olha Vasylivna also got acquainted in more detail with the objectives of the existing study programmes “Light Industry Technologies”, “Fashion Industry” and “Technologies and Design in the Fashion Industry”, reviewed in detail the programme outcomes, general and professional competences, as this is a key aspect in the level of qualification of future industry specialists and the current needs of employers. Necessary and valuable knowledge for industry professionals is the ability to select materials and appropriate haberdashery products, as well as knowledge of modern methods and stages of assessing the quality of manufacturing these products, which is important to consider when teaching disciplines.
On 07.11.2024, second-year students majoring in 182 Light Industry Technologies met with Chief Technologist Olha Ostapchuk and Engineer Lidiia Paramud of “Edelvika” PrJS to perform practical training in the subject “Product Qualification” in the testing and research laboratory of the enterprise. In the production environment, the students received a full-fledged professional algorithm for assessing the quality of textile materials and raw materials, practical skills from highly qualified production specialists and professional experience in the industry.

In the process of assessing the quality of textile materials and the discussion that arose during the lesson, it was proposed by the specialists of “Edelvika” PrJS to make changes to the structural and logical schemes of the educational components of the EP “Light Industry Technologies” and “Fashion Industry”.
On 04.12.2024, within the framework of cooperation between the two universities, Lutsk National Technical University and Kherson National Technical University (KNTU), a working meeting was held between the Vice-Rector for Research and Education Olena Liutak, the Dean of the Faculty of Customs, Materials and Technologies Valentyna Tkachuk and the staff of the Department of TLC with the Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations of KNTU Yuliia Saribiekova and the Head of the Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies of KNTU Iryna Kulish. A number of issues related to joint research, scientific work and educational programmes were discussed. The constructive suggestions received will be taken into account to improve educational programmes.
On 20.01.2025, a working meeting was held with Ivan Kovalchuk, a partner of the Department of Light Industry Technologies of LNTU, head of production at “Ikos” LLC. This production systematically carries out scientific and practical work of teachers and students, so the discussion of the EP “Light Industry Technologies”, “Fashion Industry” and “Technologies and Design in the Fashion Industry” for the training of industry specialists is an important aspect in the partnership between the department and the enterprise.

Ivan Ivanovych reviewed the educational programmes and the list of disciplines for each of them in detail. He emphasised the need to provide students with basic knowledge of footwear manufacturing processes and the management system for their quality assessment, which will enhance students’ multidisciplinary knowledge and improve the qualification level of future industry professionals.
On 17.01.2025, a working meeting was held in the specialised laboratory of the garment industry of Lutsk National Technical University with Oleh Lytvyn, Acting Head of the Department of Food Technology, Light Industry and Design of the Education and Research Institute “UEPA” of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. In addition, Oleh Lytvyn is the chairman of the examination committee for the defence of master’s theses of the programme “Technologies and Design in the Fashion Industry”.
During the meeting, the structure of educational programmes, the content of educational components, and the organisation of the educational process were discussed. In particular, the importance of introducing topics on environmentally sustainable technologies and textile processing into the curriculum as a result of participation in grant projects was noted; practical advice was given on the use of new methods of teaching disciplines in distance education, as this has become an integral part of the provision of educational services by the ERI “UEPA” of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, which is related to the military actions in Ukraine.

On 26.02.2025, a meeting was held with applicants for the speciality Light Industry Technology of all courses of the first and second levels of higher education. During the presentation of the educational programmes by the guarantors, attention was focused on the focus and objectives of the EP, the list of ECs, structural and logical schemes of the EP, and programme learning outcomes. The meeting allowed us to identify the wishes of students in order to improve educational programmes.
